En 1937, pendant la guerre d'Espagne, Anton, un agent russe, est arrêté par les allemands, alors qu'il faisait passer des armes en Espagne. Sa libération est organisée : il sort de prison, en compagnie d'un certain Müller, en échange d'un agent allemand. Mais son nouveau camarade se révèle être un agent double. Léo, un ami d'Anton, tue alors Müller. Le trafic d'armes reprend son cours normal mais Anton doute de plus en plus de son action...
