Accusé d'un crime qu'il n'a pas commis, l'artiste martial Chan est piégé par Duan, le tenancier d'une maison close, qui lui fait briser les mains et force sa sœur à devenir sa maîtresse. Infirme, Chan survit en faisant des spectacles de rues accompagné de son petit singe, jusqu'au jour où des voyous tuent le pauvre primate. Témoin de la tragédie, un pickpocket au grand cœur propose à Chan de prendre la place de son singe en apprenant la technique de kung-fu spécifique à cet animal...
