La légende raconte qu'une énorme cloche en or, "La mère des voix", fut construite il y a bien des lunes par des moines byzantins. Quand le cheik Mansour entend cette histoire racontée par l'un de ses prisonniers, Rolfe, fils du chef Viking Krok, il décide de le torturer afin de savoir où se trouve ce trésor. Mais Rolfe parvient à s'échapper. Après être rentré chez lui, il convainc son frère de le suivre pour trouver eux-mêmes la cloche; c'est ainsi qu'ils détournent un drakkar destiné au roi qui s'échoue sur les côtes africaines...
