Le vol 47 de la Transcontinental Airlines s'apprête à décoller. En cette veille de Noël, il y a peu de passagers et la jeune hôtesse de l'air, Teri Halloran, se prépare pour un vol de routine. Cependant l'avion transporte deux prisonniers, Stubbs, un braqueur et Weaver, un tueur en série, escortés par des agents fédéraux. Le vol de routine de Teri va vite se transformer en cauchemar quand Stubbs, en tentant une prise d'otages, parvient à éliminer les agents fédéraux.
