Serveur dans un café hippie, Walter Paisley est impressionné par les artistes et les idées qui y circulent. Sans aucun talent particulier, ce dernier rêve un jour de pouvoir leur clouer le bec. Il tente alors de s'essayer à la sculpture d'argile. Mais maladroit, il tue accidentellement un chat avec son couteau de modélisme. Pour cacher cet incident, Walter va alors enduire ce corps dans la glaise et décide de présenter son art. L’œuvre remporte alors un vif succès, obligeant le jeune homme à tuer à nouveau.
