Franck Reno, un chanteur au succès sans précédent, est sur le point de se marier. Mais, quand un personnage aussi séduisant et célèbre que lui annonce que son coeur n'est plus à prendre, ses fans sont en émoi. Le soir même de ses fiançailles, une cérémonie est donc organisée afin qu'il s'adresse à son public. Soudain, c'est une journaliste, Margaret Duval, qui débarque sur scène à sa place. C'est par elle que tout a commencé, alors qu'elle avait été envoyée par ses patrons pour enquêter sur la famille de Franck. Elle-même amoureuse de la star, elle décide de faire le récit de ses aventures, entre quiproquos familiaux et trahisons amoureuses...
