A Lower East Side, à New York, en plein été, Victor, seize ans, sa soeur Vicky et son frère Nino partagent la même chambre de l'appartement dans lequel ils sont élevés par leur grand-mère. Cette émigrée de longue date de la République Dominicaine porte sur eux un regard attentionné et vigilant, plus sévère à l'encontre de Victor, qui, à ses yeux, a une influence néfaste sur la famille.
Par une chaude après-midi, Victor, qui se veut un séducteur irrésistible, fait bientôt la rencontre de Judy et de Melanie, sa meilleure amie. Judy est une beauté mystérieuse, tous les garçons du quartier tentent de la draguer. Mais celle-ci recherche plus qu'un simple petit ami, quelque chose de vrai, d'exceptionnel.
Entre l'exaspération de sa grand-mère, l'admiration de ses frère et soeur et le regard de Judy, Victor s'achemine sur la voie de la responsabilité.
