Dans un futur proche, Faust, un prestigieux médecin, spécialiste du traitement des maladies en phase terminale, rencontre, à l'occasion d'une convention médicale, Santos Vella, un ex-patient à qui il ne donnait que quelques mois à vivre huit ans auparavant. Santos va s'immiscer progressivement dans la vie de Faust et le conduire dans un voyage hallucinatoire à travers ses propres désirs, même les plus inavouables.
