Daisy Clover, du haut de ses quinze ans, rêve de devenir une vedette à Hollywood. Remarquée lors d'une audition par le producteur Raymond Swan, la jeune fille devient très vite une étoile montante. Mais pour mériter sa place, elle doit laisser son passé de côté pour donner à la place à son public une image d'un véritable conte de fées, inventé de toute pièce. Cette fille des quartiers pauvres découvre alors le monde merveilleux du cinéma mais aussi l'envers du décor.
