Pendant l'été 1965, Jean-Baptiste Foucret doit remplacer un impitoyable chef scout. Moniteur étourdi et sans grande autorité, il prend en charge un teigneux groupe de jeunes garnements qui ne pensent alors qu'à lui faire vivre un enfer. Bien trop permissif, Jean-Baptiste perd très vite le contrôle du camp. Mais lorsqu'un des enfants se fait mordre par une vipère, la réactivité de leur chef leur fait tous changer radicalement d'avis.
