D'Artagnan quitte sa Gascogne natale pour se rendre à Paris et y devenir mousquetaire du roi. Arrivé dans la capitale, il se prend de querelle avec trois mousquetaires, Athos, Porthos et Aramis, qu'il décide d'affronter en duel. L'arrivée des gardes du Cardinal interrompt le premier duel et voit d'Artagnan prendre aussitôt le parti de ses compagnons, dont les adversaires sont défaits et mis en fuite.
D'Artagnan devient l'ami des trois valeureux mousquetaires et rejoint lui-même la célèbre compagnie. Il loge dans la même maison que Constance Bonacieux, l'une des servantes de la reine Anne. Cette dernière a offert au duc de Buckingham, son amant, douze ferrets de diamants que lui avait donnés le roi. Richelieu charge Milady de Winter de s'emparer de deux ferrets afin de compromettre la reine qui sera dès lors incapable de porter au bal la parure complète.

Without him in the story both Eddie and the symbiote have no personal connection to him and will just be some random villain for Spidy when they encounter each other instead of the man is obsessed with because of being his first host and Eddie has a grudge on for ruining his life."
