Pendant ce temps, l'enquête avance, sous la direction de l'inspecteur Chodaque, dont c'est la première grosse affaire. Décidé à employer tous les moyens, Chodaque envoie Monique, son assistante, en infiltration dans les studios, dans l'espoir d'en savoir plus sur Rengain. Sur place, Monique découvre que l'animateur était détesté de tous. Jean Yanne met son génie satirique au service d'une comédie grinçante sur la bêtise cathodique.
