Claire Parker, une étudiante de 19 ans, travaille dans une station-service. Un jour, alors que son petit ami doit venir la chercher, elle voit arriver Duke, un homme qui se présente comme un copain de celui-ci et lui propose de la raccompagner. Claire accepte. Duke ne tarde pas à révéler son vrai visage : il va battre Claire à mort, la torturer, la mutiler. Puis on retrouve Claire à la caisse de sa station-service, indemne. Etait-ce un simple cauchemar ? Pas sûr, car l'horrible scénario se reproduit...
