Nicolas, fils et petit-fils de paysans, vit encore a la ferme. Sa vie est rythmee par les sorties en boite, les vaches qui mettent bas. Cependant son pere s'est endette et Nicolas ne pourra peut-etre pas rester a la ferme. C'est alors qu'il fait la connaissance de Maria. Elle est belle, elle vit sur le Causse avec ses deux enfants. Nicolas en devient amoureux. A la ferme la situation empire et la famille doit partir. Nicolas connait sur le causse une ferme abandonnee. Et puis, il y a Maria.
