Après qu'une épidémie virale ait transformé la population infectée en psychopathes et qu'il ait perdu sa famille, Daniel quitte sa maison à la recherche d'un nouvel abri. Il s'installe dans une ferme de la campagne écossaise qui lui semble inoccupée. Mais c'est là qu'habite April, adolescente orpheline, que Daniel va commencer à connaître. Alors que chacun panse ses plaies et que Daniel s'interroge sur le passé d'April, une troisième survivante arrive et le délicat équilibre qui s'était mis en place va voler en éclat quand le passé d'April va refaire surface...
