Yusef, étudiant pakistanais, quitte le campus pour s'installer à Buffalo avec un groupe de punks musulmans. Une fois installé, il découvre Taqwacore, un mouvement de punk rock musulman. Sous l'influence du Taqwacore, Yusef commence à défier sa propre foi. Le film évoque la difficulté d'être à la fois jeune et musulman dans l'Amérique d'aujourd'hui.
