Dan Day, un pasteur, tue sans faire exprès un docteur athé du nom de Paul Blaylock. Paniqué à l'idée de voir sa réputation ruinée et toute sa vie lui échapper il décide de déguiser l'accident en suicide. Malheureusement pour lui, Carl, un des fidèles de la paroisse, assiste à la scène. Dès lors, les galères s'enchaînent car personne ne semble croire à son histoire et un mafieux mexicain, possédant une vidéo du crime, se met à le faire chanter lui et Dan Day...
