Robert Hansen, un jeune étudiant allemand d'une vingtaine d'années, organise une fête avec ses amis dans la demeure de son grand-père, un professeur spécialiste de la grippe aviaire qui a mystérieusement disparu. Ces malheureux jeunes gens vont découvrir que les oiseaux de la région sont porteur d'un virus qui les rend très agressifs et qui transforme leurs victimes en zombies assoiffés de sang.
