Rakesh (Abhishek Bachchan) et Vimmi (Rani Mukherjee) ont des rêves plein la tête et aucune envie de suivre le schéma parental, une vie de petit fonctionnaire pour l’un, le mariage pour l’autre. Ils partent à l’aventure, chacun de leur côté, mais se heurtent vite à des vilains qui exploitent leur naïveté. C’est là qu’ils se rencontrent, désemparés, sur un quai de gare. Ils décident de faire front ensemble, en devenant Bunty et Babli. Ils entrent alors dans le jeu des arnaqueurs de tout poil, cette fois du côté des gagnants. Pleins d’imagination, dénués de tout scrupule mais généreux envers les plus pauvres, ils amassent joyeusement des tas de billets en escroquant tour à tour hôteliers, politiciens, commerçants et ...policiers, sous le nez de l’inspecteur Dashrath (Amitabh Bachchan) qui s’est juré de les attraper.
