Une jeune femme qui se pique le doigt sur une épine de rose, donne naissance à une fille. Parce qu'elle a les cheveux bruns et un teint de porcelaine, elle la baptise aussitôt Blanche-Neige. Mais la jeune femme ne survit pas à l'accouchement. Son mari, désemparé, part à la recherche de lait pour son bébé. Pris dans une tempête, il s'arrête et perd espoir. Ses larmes, au contact, de la neige, libèrent un monstre prisonnier de la glace. Pour le remercier, il offre au père de Blanche Neige, son propre royaume, mais lui impose en échange sa soeur, Elspeth, pour en être la reine. Cette dernière, sous les traits d'une belle femme, s'avère être une hideuse mégère dont le père de Blanche-Neige refuse les avances. Elle décide donc de l'envoûter et de trôner à ses côtés. De son côté, Blanche Neige grandit et devient une magnifique jeune fille dont la beauté ne cesse d'attiser la jalousie de sa marâtre...
