Ancienne gymnaste devenue masseuse, Jane Hawkins, la quarantaine, regrette sa vie de championne olympique et... sa liberté. Coincée entre un mari qui la délaisse et une envie d'enfant qui ne se concrétise pas, elle va se remettre en quête de sensations. Au hasard d'une visite dans un gymnase, elle sera reconnue par sa coach et remettra sa vie en question. La surprise sera de taille puisque c'est un rôle d'acrobate qu'on lui propose. Une mystérieuse sino-américaine est aussi de l'aventure. Forcées de s'entraîner seules, les deux femmes se rapprochent, dans un ballet aérien très physique et sensuel. Mais Jane devra choisir entre son mari, qui devient soudain insistant, et Serena, dont elle est follement amoureuse...
