Isolé dans un chalet en pleine montagne, le docteur Franklin Vick poursuit des recherches médicales controversées sur la résurrection. Son cobaye, Adam Schmidt, un étudiant en médecine, est volontaire pour tester et guérir de diverses morts possibles grâce au sérum qui doit le rendre immortel. Mais ces différents essais vont faire apparaître chez Adam des effets secondaires qui peu à peu, vont l'éloigner de sa condition humaine. Il va alors découvrir que la mort a ses effets secondaires…
