Sean Cambell, plongeur en eaux profondes, est appelé d'urgence au Canada afin de réparer une pièce de forage au fond d'un lac. Obligé d'annuler ses vacances avec son fils, Cambell propose au jeune garçon de le suivre pour ne pas le décevoir. Sur place, ils découvrent la légende d'une créature censée vivre dans le lac et, fasciné, l'enfant décide de prouver son existence.
