En apprenant qu'il est sur le point de perdre la vue, Esfandyar, un expatrié iranien vivant à Paris, décide de rentrer chez lui après vingt ans d'absence. Confronté à son passé, il est forcé de vivre des retrouvailles lourdes de sens.
Avec son père mourant, mais aussi avec son ancien amour, Forough, ayant depuis épousé le père d'Esfandyar. Entre les intrigues liées à son passé politique et ses conflits amoureux, Esfandyar a beaucoup de comptes à régler avant de sombrer dans le noir.
