Il connaît par coeur les habitudes, les goûts, les tics et le train-train professionnel de Perelman père, un homme respecté et respectable. Perelman fils prétend qu'il ne veut pas lui ressembler, ni suivre son chemin, tracé d'avance, mais plus il essaie de s'affranchir de lui, plus il lui ressemble.

A mesure qu'il ébauche sa construction identitaire, Perelman fils finit par accepter, non sans une certaine appréhension, l'héritage paternel, l'acquis immuable. Ce qui lui pose problème, c'est d'arriver à construire cette identité sur ce qui le distingue de son père, sur tout ce qui lui reste à découvrir.
